The local village of Eymoutiers has a produce market every Saturday (as well as 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month) where you can wander by the many stalls to purchase a variety of delicious local cheeses and homegrown produce. Don't worry about parking. Eymoutiers hasn't yet heard of pay car parks or meters! There is also a supermarket, banks, hardware store, restaurants, etc.
If you are looking for some shopping or a bit of the city life, Limoges is only a 30-minute drive from La Varache. This ancient roman cathedral city, which is famous for its porcelain, offers plenty of activities including several historical sites.

- There are two fresh water beaches close by: Lac de Vassiviere and even closer (10 kms) at Chateauneuf la Foret.
- Chateau de Boussac - Built on an exceptional site where fortifications have existed since Roman times, the current castle dates partly from the XII and XIII centuries and the beginning of the XV century. Marshal Jean 1 " of Brush, Companion of Jeanne-d’Arc rebuilt the castle around 1400.
- Chateau de Chalus - Final resting place of Richard 1st (Richard the Lionheart) mortally wounded during the siege of the castle in 1199. The chateau consists of the first main building (XI-XII and XIII th centuries). second main building (XVII th century), the cylindrical dungeon (XII th century) - pictured right, the chapel, where Richard’s remains are still lying and the medieval garden.
- Château de Rochechouart - 15th Century chateaux which also houses the departments Centre of Contemporary Art. The chateau is built on the edge of a 20 km crater formed by a meteorite 160 million years ago
- Les Loupes de Chabrières, Gueret - A variety of wolf species (including the white wolf) are being bred in a natural environment. Here you can see them from observation towers outside the enclosures. The park also has a 5 metre planetarium and various displays showing the relationship between man and wolf.
- Parc du Reynou - Open Wildlife park with a difference near Limoges. Walk among the animals !
- Aquarium , Limoges - In the centre of Limoges this aquarium has 300 different species and and more than 2500 fish in a floor area of over 1000 square metres. Over 40 tanks and 4 very large tanks
- Museums - Including the Distillery Museum in Limoges; Museum of the Resistance Limoges; Centre de la Memoire - Oradour sur Glane the martyred village destroyed during the second world war and left in it's original state as a memorial to the 642 men, women and children massacred there by a German SS Panzer division; Museum of Electricity - Bourganeuf; and Gay-Lussac Museum - St Leonard de Noblat charting the life of the famous scientist.
- Collonges la Rouge, Curemonte and Turenne (19); reputedly three of the prettiest villages in France. Collonges la Rouge is so known on account of the red sandstone used in the buildings.

Parc D'Arbre en Arbre is an outward bound activity adventure centre- with fantastic tree-top assault courses for children and adults alike, on the edge of the stunning Lake Vassiviere
- Kayaking on the river Vienne as well as other Water Sports such as Sailing, Windsurfing etc. nearby.
- There is a well known rock which is used for rock climbing. This is about a fifteen minute walk from La Varache at “Rocher Escalade de La Forêt Chabrouty”
- Fishing in the Vienne which runs alongside our property.
- Walking and mountain bike routes through La Varache.
